Why Customers Love Honest Sea Moss

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you use Irish Sea Moss gel?

Irish Sea Moss is most commonly transformed into a gel. Once made into a gel, you can freeze it for 6 months or put it in the fridge to be consumed within 2-3 weeks. The gel can be taken as a scoop by itself, or added to your smoothies, desserts, soups, or curries!

I purchased my Sea Moss frozen, what now?

If your Sea Moss was purchased frozen, you can either store it in your freezer for up to 6 months, or leave it in your fridge to thaw and consume within 2-3 weeks.

How do you make Sea Moss gel?

  • Step 1: Thoroughly rinse/wash raw Sea Moss 3-5 times.
  • Step 2: Immerse and soak in spring water, squeeze lemon/lime in order to nullify the ocean taste/smell. Soak for 12-24 hours. Alternatively, soak in boiling water for 15-20 minutes.
  • Step 3: Blend to make into a gel with soaking water. Add more water depending on desired texture
  • Step 4: Store in an air-tight container and refrigerate or freeze immediately. Gel will be good for 2-3 weeks in the fridge and 6 months in the freezer.

You can read more on how to make gel here.

How long does Sea Moss gel last?

Sea Moss Gel should be refrigerated immediately upon arrival in order to preserve its freshness. The Gel has a 2-3 week shelf life in the fridge, and can last about 6 months in the freezer.

You'll know the gel has gone bad once it starts smelling/tasting a bit off when you open it. An easy solution is to freeze any gel you won't use within that 3 week timeframe, or to simply freeze them into Sea Moss Ice cubes for immediate use whenever!

Where is our Sea Moss sourced from?

We source our Sea Moss from a network of suppliers in Ireland. We choose to exclusively work with Irish suppliers as they have to abide by strict European Union food safety standards, helping us to ensure that the products you pay for are premium quality. Our product is Organic Certified, lab-tested for nutritional content and heavy metal analysis, and adheres to sustainable practices.

In our experience, we have found that many Sea Moss suppliers (particularly Caribbean based suppliers) cannot actually verify the quality of their Sea Moss as there is a lack of regulatory oversight. This is why we provide you with organic certifications and lab tests, so that you have no doubts as to what you are paying for.

What does Sea Moss gel taste like?

Some gels may have a bit of an ocean smell/taste, we add organic limes to our gel in order to nullify this unpleasant aspect. With no taste, feel free to add our Sea Moss Gel into your favorite protein shake, soup, tea, or desserts! Check our Recipes blog for some inspiration.

Will Sea Moss break my fast?

It depends on the type of fast you are doing. Sea Moss can be a great addition to a juice fast as it assists in the detox process. Although, Sea Moss Gel would break your water fast as it contains nutrients your body would have to process.

Should I take Sea Moss gel everyday?

We recommend to take 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) of gel per day to start feeling its amazing benefits! You are free to take more if you wish, there is no risk to taking Sea Moss gel.

How often can I use Sea Moss gel as a face mask?

We recommend using Sea Moss Gel as a face mask up to two times per week. Ingesting Sea Moss gel will also help your skin health from within.

Is Sea Moss vegan friendly?

Yes, Sea Moss Gel works as a great vegan substitute for gelatin, eggs, or any other product that can be used to thicken (puddings, mousses, curries, soups). Check out our Sea Moss Recipes article for more ideas.

Can I take Sea Moss gel while on medications?

If you take thyroid medication, consult with your doctor or dietician before implementing Sea Moss use as its iodine content may not react well with the medication.

Otherwise, there aren't any known risks, but we always recommend speaking with your current health care provider who is better equipped to give you more personalized advice based upon your personal situation.

Is Sea Moss ok to take if I am allergic to shellfish?

Sea Moss is safe for most people with food allergies. While we take extreme care to clean our Sea Moss before packaging or making the gel, we cannot guarantee that the gel is 100% free from any traces of shellfish.

Can I take Sea Moss if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Our Irish Sea Moss is certified organic and lab tested for nutritional quality and heavy metal analysis to ensure utmost quality. However, we always recommend that you speak with your health care provider if you are pregnant in case there are any specific reasons why you should not consume our products or certain ingredients.
